How Do We Become More Resilient?
Find a Sense of Purpose – Do The things You Enjoy

The job in important but it cannot be the only thing in your life. Voluntary work and studying, for example, gives balance and a sense of achievement.

Be Self Aware

Have a positive self-image to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts.

Hold a positive attitude, glass half full. You control this, it doesn’t control you.

When things become difficult ‘take a breather’. Break the negative loop. Hold the Power Position, think about your body language. Breathing techniques – breathing deep for 2 mins increases testosterone by 20%, reduces cortisol by 22% and 33% more likely to take positive actions (Anthony Robbins)

Build a Strong Social Network

Surround yourself with positive people who can offer support and guidance.

There’s nothing like feeling part of a team and having mentors that can help in your development.

Be a Problem Solver.

Take responsibility for your development and performance.

Seek out opportunities to improve the way you work, contribute to your environment.

Establish Goals

Have clear KPI’s that are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely) and constantly reviewed. This provides motivation, direction and feedback, thus reducing anxieties over performance.

We are not born resilient; we develop and nurture it through life’s challenges. This was a difficult period in my life that I embraced and used to give me the resilience to get through a tough period at Huddersfield Giants in 2007.

We all have a ‘Journey’, use life’s challenges to help you become more resilience.
